San Diego’s Cultural Center

It is a registered National Landmark
A primary draw to San Diego, California is its urban forest, which is home to many rare, mature trees. The park was first designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977 and later became a registered National Landmark district. It is also a registered California Cultural District, one of only 14 in the United States. In fact, many of the original trees that are in the park were planted by Kate Sessions, an American landscape architect and botanist. Kate was a pioneer in the planting of drought tolerant plants, and she maintained a public nursery to grow them.
